The YAMAHA BB has been remodeled for the first time in seven years to mark the 40th anniversary of the series.
The design has been reviewed and refined into a modern design that retains the atmosphere typical of the “BB series. The slimmer shape of the body and other parts has also improved playability. The 3-ply body and miter bolting neck joint have been newly adopted to thoroughly improve the body sound.
In addition to improving the efficiency of string vibration and body vibration, durability has also been improved, resulting in a slim yet tough sounding bass. In addition, the newly developed pickups have been installed to achieve a clearer sound with more presence, while maintaining the powerful, thick bass sound that is the hallmark of the “BB Series”. This model is equipped with an active circuit that can also be switched to passive.

Main Features

1. traditional BB original shape updated into a modern design
Based on the silhouette of the original BB shape, the body, neck, and head have been slimmed down, and the pickguard has been redesigned. The new design is sophisticated and modern, while retaining the BB series’ originality. The new design also achieves high playability along with a sleek appearance.
2. 3-Ply Construction for Improved Body Vibration Efficiency
The “BB PRO/700 Series” uses two materials for the body: alder, which is characterized by its warm mid-range sound, and hard maple, which produces a clear sound, with the maple sandwiched between the alder. This sturdy construction improves the vibration efficiency of the body, resulting in a slim body with firm body resonance, thick bass, and rich midrange.
3. “Miter bolting system” for strong joint between body and neck
In addition to the four screws that secure the neck vertically from the back of the body, a new “miter bolting system” has been adopted for the joint between the body and neck, with two screws securing the neck end from the back of the body at a 45 degree angle. The contact surface between the neck and body is increased for a firmer and tighter fit, increasing neck strength and reducing loss of string vibration, resulting in a clearer sound and superior sustain. In addition, string vibrations are efficiently transmitted throughout the body, creating a rich sound that integrates the body and neck. 4.
Newly developed pickups
Newly developed pickups for each model are installed. While inheriting the fat rock sound characteristic of the BB Series, the new pickups deliver a clearer sound with more defined contours. The new pickups have a clear sound with a more defined profile, and a more discrete sound that makes its presence felt even within a band.
5. unique “string-through-body” construction
The “BB PRO/700/400 Series” also features our original “string-through-body” construction, which has been well-received in our previous models. In the “BB PRO/700/400 Series”, however, the strings are passed through the bottom of the body, which is cut at an angle of 45 degrees to reduce the stress on the strings at the saddle, and the string vibration loss is significantly reduced and efficiently transmitted to the body. The bridge is a convertible type, and in addition to the back-through method, it can also be used with the normal front-through method, in which the strings are passed through from the bottom of the bridge.
