Now very rare! Long-established brand! Master!

Master” is one of the rarest and most sought after legendary Japanese vintage brands.

Master” is an original brand of Kawase Gakki, one of the most long-established and respected brands in Ochanomizu, Japan.
Its production dates back to the 1960s, and even before the emergence of major music stores as we know them today, Kawase Gakki was a professional store that was a favorite of professional musicians and a coveted destination for acoustic guitar players. Kawase Gakki was aiming for Japanese quality guitars that could compete with the likes of Martin and Gibson, and this Master was manufactured and sold in Japan.

The model we have in stock this time is a guitar of a type similar to Martin’s 0, which is thought to have been custom produced around 1986. The sides and back are of course made of rosewood, but the top wood is also made of rosewood, which is quite a rare specification even today and at that time. The neck is mahogany, with ebony on the fingerboard & bridge.

The beauty of the hexagon inlays and Avalon binding, as well as the darker rosewood, give the guitar a luxurious feel. Especially, as the guitar has been aged for nearly 40 years, the paint has a stain that gives it even a dignified appearance.

As for the sound trend, the first impression is hardness, partly because the top wood is rosewood, but the good graininess in the strokes matches it, and you will experience a unique trend. Depending on your playing style, it will be interesting to carve with a low, zesty sound. It is understandable that professional musicians used this instrument.

As for the condition, there are some color burns, parts chipping, scratches, dents, paint cracks, and other signs of use commensurate with its age, but there are no fatal damages and it has been well built. The neck is in good condition, and the string height has been adjusted to a comfortable playing height.
The frets are still high enough. The inside of the body has been painted, so there are no visible repair marks.

There are a few hairline cracks repaired on the back of the body, but since the original finish is semi-glossy, it is barely noticeable on the surface where the cracks were.
Other than that, there is some top lift, but it does not interfere with playing and should not be a problem.
The pegs were originally a Cruson type, but the previous owner has replaced them with the more accurate Gotoh 510 series Cruson type.

It is quite a rare spec and brand. Why don’t you try to pick it up?
